LEGACY: Bella Hunter carries dad's legacy on X Factor

BELLA Hunter knows her father will be watching over her when she sings on The X Factor tonight. Bella, the daughter of late Dragon frontman Marc Hunter, is set to make her breakthrough performance on the Channel 7 talent show. Bella has been singing since she was a small child but has only thought of following in her dad’s footsteps in recent years. Marc died in 1998, aged 44, after being diagnosed with throat cancer. The X Factor is Bella’s biggest step yet in pursuing a professional singing career and carrying on her father's legacy. "I feel like he (Marc) is here," the 23-year-old says. "Everyone expects me to get emotional (about his passing) but all I am filled with now are happy memories. "It took me a long time to be that way." Dragon had a string of upbeat hits in the late 1970s and early 1980s including April Sun in Cuba, Are You Old Enough? And Rain. The band was also cruelled by tragedy. Early drummer Neil Storey and keyboardist Paul Hewson died of drug overdoses. Hewson and guitarist Robert Taylor were also involved in a serious car accident. Bella remembers touring with her dad – along with mum Wendy and brother Jackson - during those heady days. "We’d be on tour buses and planes, living in Los Angeles and New York, getting to live that crazy life,” she says. "It was very disjointed at times." Bella describes her music style as 'glamour pop'. She performs Lana Del Rey’s Video Games on tonight's X Factor. Bella says it is her mission to create positive, uplifting music and make her departed dad proud. "When I'm feeling awful I'll hear a song of his floating out of a cafĂ© and it is a reminder that his legacy lives on," she says. "Some of the young contestants on The X Factor have come up to me and started singing one of dad's songs. "It covers so many generations."
