Need A Break: Nicki Minaj pulls out of V Festival

Nicki Minaj has pulled out of her performance at V Festival at the last minute, citing "vocal issues". The 'Superbass' singer was scheduled to play the event's 4 Music stage later today (August 19).

"Miss Minaj's band and crew have all arrived in the UK ahead of the performance at the festival this weekend, however as the artist herself boarded her flight from New York on Friday 17th August, she felt unwell again," read a statement from the organisers. "This is despite having thought she had overcome her vocal cord issues from earlier in the week. Having revisited her doctor she has now been advised to rest for a week, which unfortunately means that she is no longer able to perform at V Festival." They went on to wish the singer a ''speedy recovery'' and announced that LMFAO would move up the billing and perform a set in the slot instead. Minaj had hinted earlier in the week that she was struggling with vocal problems. After performing two gigs in New York with labelmate Drake joining her on stage, she tweeted: "It's official, my voice is GONE!" Tinie Tempah, Example and Ed Sheeran are among the other acts lined up to perform at V Festival this weekend. Minaj plans to return to the UK in October as part of her 'Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded' tour. Last month, former X Factor star Misha B revealed that she would be supporting the rapper and described the opportunity as "mind blowing".

NO 1: 'Hunger Games' beats 'Harry Potter' as best-selling Amazon series

The Hunger Games trilogy has overtaken the Harry Potter novels as the best-selling book series on Amazon.com. CNN reports that the announcement was made by the Amazon company on Friday with an official statement from editorial director of books Sara Nelson.

"Since debuting in 2008, Katniss Everdeen and the Hunger Games have taken the world by storm, much as Harry Potter did a decade before," Nelson explained. "Interestingly, this series is only three books versus Harry Potter's seven, and to achieve this result in just four years is a great testament to both the popularity of the work and, we think, the growth in reading digitally during that time." The trilogy, written by Suzanne Collins, consists of The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay. A follow-up to the highly successful screen adaptation of The Hunger Games is currently in production and will feature new cast members including Philip Seymour Hoffman and Jena Malone.

System Is Fucked UP: Madonna blasts Pussy Riot conviction

Madonna has spoken out to condemn the recent conviction of Russian punk band Pussy Riot. The three members of the feminist band have been sentenced to two years in prison for "hooliganism" after performing an anti-Putin song in a Russian cathedral.

Madonna released a statement today (August 18) protesting the prison sentence as "inhumane", reports The Huffington Post. "I protest the conviction and sentencing of Pussy Riot to a penal colony for two years for a 40-second performance extolling their political opinions," the statement reads. "Even if one disagrees with the location or how they chose to express themselves, the sentence is too harsh and in fact is inhumane. "I call on all those who love freedom to condemn this unjust punishment. I urge artists around the world to speak up in protest against this travesty. They've spent enough time in jail. I call on ALL of Russia to let Pussy Riot go free." Madonna is one of several international musicians who have spoken out in support of Pussy Riot, including Kate Nash and Paul McCartney.

According to our sources, Richardson was then hauled off to the police station where he blew almost TWICE the legal limit. Richardson spent the night in jail and was released early this morning. Yahoo news is reporting that Olympic swimming champion, Michael Phelps, could be in trouble for his recent photo shoot with French luxury fashion house - Louis Vuitton. Photos of Phelps for LV were leaked on the Internet late last week, violating the International Olympic Committee's controversial Rule 40, which states athletes can't promote any non-Olympic sponsors from July 18 to Aug. 15. Salinas says the training camp crowd ranges from 3,000-12,000 fans every day -- reaching capacity on weekends ... which is why they needed the additional officers on Saturdays and Sundays. Century Long BAN: Gay parades banned in Moscow for 100 years

Moscow's top court has upheld a ban on gay pride marches in the Russian capital for the next 100 years. Earlier Russia's best-known gay rights campaigner, Nikolay Alexeyev, had gone to court hoping to overturn the city council's ban on gay parades. He had asked for the right to stage such parades for the next 100 years. He also opposes St Petersburg's ban on spreading "homosexual propaganda". The European Court of Human Rights has told Russia to pay him damages. On Friday he said he would go back to the European Court in Strasbourg to push for a recognition that Moscow's ban on gay pride marches - past, present and future - was unjust. The Moscow city government argues that the gay parade would risk causing public disorder and that most Muscovites do not support such an event. In September, the Council of Europe - the main human rights watchdog in Europe - will examine Russia's response to a previous European Court ruling on the gay rights issue, Russian media report. In October 2010 the court said Russia had discriminated against Mr Alexeyev on grounds of sexual orientation. It had considered Moscow's ban on gay parades covering the period 2006-2008.

TOO BAD: Pussy Riot members jailed for two years for hooliganism

Three members of Russian punk band Pussy Riot have been jailed for two years after staging an anti-Vladimir Putin protest in a Moscow cathedral. Judge Marina Syrova convicted the women of hooliganism motivated by religious hatred, saying they had "crudely undermined social order". The women say the protest, in February, was directed at the Russian Orthodox Church leader's support for Mr Putin. The US, UK and EU all criticised the sentences as "disproportionate". Prosecutors had been seeking a three-year jail sentence for the women. Judge Syrova said Maria Alyokhina, 24, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 22, and Yekaterina Samutsevich, 29, had offended the feelings of Orthodox believers and shown a "complete lack of respect". "Tolokonnikova, Alyokhina and Samutsevich committed hooliganism - in other words, a grave violation of public order," she said. Another Celeb Dead: JOEY KOVAR 'Real World' Star DEAD Family Suspects Drugs

Joey Kovar -- the troubled "Real World" star who appeared on "Celebrity Rehab" -- was found dead at a friend's home near Chicago this morning ... and family members believe drugs are to blame ... TMZ has learned. Kovar was 29 years old. Kovar's rep tells TMZ ... Joey was discovered by a female friend early this morning who noticed blood coming out of Joey's ears and nose. The woman called 911 ... and authorities rushed to the scene where he was pronounced dead. Kovar had famously battled drug issues -- and sought help for cocaine and ecstasy during his stint on "Celeb Rehab." While on "Real World: Hollywood," Kovar entered rehab halfway through the season for alcohol and drugs, admitting he'd struggled with substance abuse for years. It was a pretty powerful moment on the show.

We're told Church sprung into action, administered the Heimlich Maneuver and saved the guy's life. HERO!!! Our photog caught up with Church later in the day and asked about his lifesaving maneuvers, but the actor was just too damn humble to get into the details. Church did get his props at lunch, however ... the Soho House comped his meal. This TOTALLY makes up for "Spider-Man 3."

Kim Kardashian is still hanging with Kanye West down in Hawaii while he fine tunes the upcoming G.O.O.D. Music album and reportedly works on his 6th solo project. Although Kardashian's ex Kris Humphries served 'Ye court papers (related to his divorce case) in a Nordstrom box earlier this week, they don't seem too upset. The couple was spotted on an ice cream run out in Hawaii yesterday dressed in matching black leather, while 'Ye took a break from the studio and that would probably just irritate Humphries a little more. Apparently, West had refused to respond to Humphries' legal team after multiple phone calls and private attempts at contact. On July 16, anindividual showed-up at Kim's door in Los Angeles. She answered the bell and, when asked for West, said he was on the phone. After waiting for a couple hours, the individual left the box for West, which ended-up having a deposition request form. Why is West, who is dating Kardashian, involved in her divorce trial with Humphries? Well, Kim tried to file for divorce the traditional way (aka divorce-divorce), while Humphries is attempting an annulment of their marriage because the entire thing was a fraud for the purposes of reality television. This was all unveiled during a court hearing this week. Kardashian and Humphries are due back in front of a judge on November 28, and an official trial date, should they not reach an agreement, will be set then.

Sad Day In Hollywood: COMPOSER MARVIN HAMLISCH Died From Lung Failure

Legendary Hollywood composer Marvin Hamlisch -- one of the few people in the world to win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award -- suffered from brain damage in the weeks before his death but ultimately succumbed to lung failure, this according to his death certificate. TMZ obtained the document, filed in L.A., which shows Hamlisch died on August 6th primarily from respiratory arrest (lung failure) ... caused by a combination of anoxic brain encephalopathy (failure of oxygen to reach the brain) and hypertension (high blood pressure). The document shows Hamlisch suffered from A.B.E. in the weeks before his death, though it's unclear if he was aware of the condition or exhibiting symptoms. Hamlisch won 2 Academy Awards for composing the music for "The Way We Were" and one Oscar for "The Sting." He also worked on music for "Sophie's Choice," "The Spy Who Loved Me" and "A Chorus Line." He was 68.
